Step 1: Consultation and Planning
Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Matlock. This is your opportunity to discuss your goals, ask questions, and understand the procedure in detail. Dr. Matlock will evaluate your health history and anatomy to create a personalized treatment plan.
Step 2: Anesthesia
On the day of the procedure, you’ll be made comfortable with either twilight or general anesthesia, depending on your surgeon’s recommendation and your personal comfort level. This ensures you won’t feel any discomfort during the procedure.
Step 3: The Procedure
Once you’re comfortably anesthetized, Dr. Matlock will use a state-of-the-art laser to gently reshape the labia. The laser allows for precise cuts and minimal bleeding, reducing the risk of scarring and promoting a quicker recovery. The procedure typically takes one to two hours, depending on the extent of the reshaping.
Step 4: Recovery
After the procedure, you’ll be moved to a recovery room where you’ll be closely monitored until you’re ready to go home. You may experience some swelling and discomfort in the first few days, but these are normal parts of the healing process. Your surgeon will provide detailed post-operative care instructions to ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery.
Laser Reduction Labiaplasty is a safe and effective procedure that can significantly improve your comfort and self-confidence.
Remember, every patient’s journey is unique, and your experience may vary slightly. Always consult with Dr. Matlock for advice tailored to your specific circumstances.
Recovery, like surgery itself, is an individual process. Nonetheless, there are certain things patients can expect:
Intraoperatively, you will be given a local anesthetic injection that will provide 18-24 hour postoperative pain control. After which, you will have pain medication that will control any discomfort you may have. The discomfort after this procedure is mild.
You may also apply ice to the vulvar areas and perineum for the first 48 hours to minimize swelling, with 20 minutes on and then 20 minutes off.
After six weeks, you will be able to resume all physical and sexual activities. Naturally, if your operation includes additional cosmetic surgical procedures, the details of your post-operative care instructions will reflect that.
