buccal fat removal

What is a buccal fat removal?

Looking for a way to enhance your facial contours and achieve a slimmer, more defined appearance?
Consider buccal fat removal at Visthetic Surgery Institute & MedSpa™.

Buccal fat removal is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess fat pads in the cheeks,
resulting in a more sculpted and chiseled look. This procedure is ideal for patients who are looking for
that “modelesque” appearance.

Who is a good candidate for a buccal fat removal?

A good candidate for buccal fat removal is someone who leads a healthy lifestyle, a non-smoker, and whose weight remains relatively consistent.

If you are tired of having a baby face and want to have a more sculpted appearance, this procedure might be a good fit. While buccal fat can be removed at any age, please take into consideration that we start to lose facial fat in our twenties, and so fat reserves should not be removed before then because it can lead to a thin or gaunt appearance as we age.

What are the results of this procedure?

Our patients that have perpetual baby faces or “chipmunk cheeks” are thrilled with the results because they have a more sculpted appearance overall. Our clients have more confidence and feel happy with their overall appearance!

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this procedure performed?

Buccal fat removal surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis, meaning the patient can return home the same day. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation, but general anesthesia may be used depending on the patient’s preference and the extent of the surgery.

During the procedure, the surgeon will make a small incision inside the mouth, typically on the inside of the cheek, to access the buccal fat pads. The surgeon will then carefully remove a portion of the buccal fat pads, sculpting the cheeks for a more defined, contoured look.

The amount of fat removed will vary depending on the patient’s individual anatomy and desired outcome. However, it’s important for the surgeon to remove the appropriate amount of fat to avoid over-removal and potential complications.

Once the desired amount of fat has been removed, the incision is typically closed with dissolvable sutures. Patients will be provided with post-operative instructions on how to care for the incision site and what to expect during the recovery period.

What can I expect during the healing and recovery phase?

After buccal fat removal surgery, patients can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort in the treated area. These side effects are normal and typically resolve within a few days to a week after the procedure. The surgeon may prescribe pain medication to manage any discomfort, and patients are typically advised to rest and avoid strenuous activities for several days following the surgery.

Patients should also follow a soft food diet for the first few days after the surgery to minimize strain on the incision site. They should also avoid smoking and drinking through a straw for at least a week, as these activities can increase the risk of complications.

It’s common for the cheeks to appear slightly more pronounced immediately after the surgery due to swelling. However, the final results will become more apparent as the swelling subsides over several weeks.

How long do results last?

Patients will see instant results after buccal fat removal surgery, but it can take up to four months to witness the final results once all the redness and swelling have subsided and your cheeks gradually contour to their new appearance.

How long do results last?

The result of a buccal fat pad removal procedure are permanent, and will redefine the shape of your face.
